Nutrition of Seaweed
Mekabu, wakame, and mozuku seaweeds are low in calories and rich in dietary fiber.
Seaweed dietary fiber is water soluble, so it binds with sodium in the body and promotes excretion, preventing hypertension. As they slow the glucose absorption and reduce the speed of a rise in blood glucose levels, they are effective in preventing diabetes.
Furthermore, since they combine with bile acid generated from cholesterol and promote its excretion, they are expected to be effective in preventing arteriosclerosis.
